About 47 percent of rural women are illiterate. Living in poverty with a limited education greatly hinders these women from finding quality jobs to support their families. They are often at risk of being trapped in dehumanizing professions (like the sex trade) in order to feed their children.
Our six-month tailoring program offers women in rural India the opportunity to learn valuable tailoring skills and business practices. Our experienced teachers will provide them with the tools and knowledge needed to support their families with an independent living. This program is designed to help break the cycle of poverty in rural India by teaching the basics of sewing and providing them with a sewing machine.
Your gift will help women in India develop a sense of self-worth. Sewing gives them a chance to do something meaningful even with a limited education. You will provide them with a sewing machine to start their own self-sustaining tailoring business. These women, who are often poor mothers and widows, will have an opportunity to use their skills to rise out of poverty and work toward a promising future for themselves and their families.
By providing women with sewing skills and a sewing machine, we are helping to break the cycle of poverty in rural India. By giving these women the opportunity to launch their own tailoring businesses, we are helping to provide them with the tools needed to support their families and thrive. Our six-month tailoring program teaches not only sewing skills, but also essential business and accounting practices that will help them succeed.
